Certification Those keeping track of NAFED's burgeoning certification program over the past two years know that we have developed certifications for portable fire extinguisher technicians, pre-engineered kitchen suppression system technicians, and industrial pre-engineered system technicians. The state of New Jersey currently mandates NAFED certification for portables technicians and pre-engineered kitchen suppression system technicians operating in the state. We offer NAFED certification nationally (on demand or to those traveling to published locations) and continue marketing it to state fire marshals for adoption. NAFED's certification program is expanding. We believe that certification raises the level of professionalism in our industry and can be an invaluable marketing tool. Wouldn't your customers like to know they are being serviced by certified individuals who have demonstrated their knowledge in a measurable way? We think so. If you're ready to get started, you can download the exam application PDF OR register online. If you'd like to know what to expect, try a brief practice exam. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NAFED CERTIFICATION EXAMS We take the certification process very seriously, and it is our policy to maintain the integrity of the process. Each certification exam is unique, so no two technicians will take the same exam. Since these are open-book exams, we use a 75% passing grade. NAFED certification is valid for a three-year period and must be renewed every three years to maintain a certification. Maintenance of certification is based upon the achievement of one hundred Education and Experience Credits (EEC) during the three-year period. Being actively involved in the discipline of your certification is equal to twenty-five EEC; therefore, over three years, an individual will have achieved seventy-five EEC for being actively involved in the industry. An additional twenty-five EEC can be achieved by attending training programs and through membership in local and national related trade associations. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NAFED CERTIFICATION TRAINING NAFED offers training seminars to aid individuals who are planning to take one or both certification exams. The certification exams are based upon the appropriate NFPA standards. Therefore, individuals taking the exams need to be familiar with the standards and how to easily find information contained in them. Although the exams are open-book, individuals need to know how to find the answers quickly in order to finish them in the allotted time period. At the NAFED training seminars, we will:
THE FUTURE NAFED certifications are currently being considered for implementation as requirements of licensing programs by several other states and local jurisdictions. NAFED's national certification program will allow those who have passed certification exams to apply for licenses in any state that adopts the NAFED program - WITHOUT having to retake the certification exam(s)! ![]() |
