Melvin R. Getz, 82, of Peoria, Illinois died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the O.S.F. Richard L. Owens Hospice Home while surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1932 in Morton, Illinois, served as a corporal in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, founded Getz Fire Equipment in 1957, and helped found NAFED in 1963. He grew his company over the years and it now currently has 125 employees and serves Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. In January 2000, Melvin Getz retired, selling the company to his son, Rod Getz. Melvin was an inventor of mobile service vehicles and fire extinguisher service equipment used and recognized throughout the world. He is a past board member of NAFED, receiving a lifetime achievement award in 2013 and also the Pat Fredriksen Award in 1997.

We are also deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Tim Foughty, president of Brooks Equipment, on Monday, May 25, 2015. Tim was passionate about Brooks Equipment's work in the fire-safety industry. He genuinely believed in and advocated for the mission of the company: working together to keep businesses and communities safe. "Tim was more than just a coworker...he was a true friend and strived to make the world a better place," said Eric Smith, CEO. "This is a tragic loss for the Brooks Equipment family, and he will be greatly missed."
