  1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. DOT Train-the-Trainer Seminar

Per DOT regulations, HazMat employees must have knowledge of hazardous materials (HM), the Hazardous Material Regulations (HMR), and be able to perform assigned HazMat functions properly. They must be trained using a systematic approach that includes testing, documentation, and certification. Training-related violations are the top violations found by the DOT during their inspections. NAFED's half-day DOT Train-the-Trainer Seminar will train an individual from your company to become the trainer for other HazMat employees.

Day 1 Thursday
7:30 - 8:00 a.m. Registration opens + continental breakfast
8:15 a.m. Welcome and Introduction
Tim Krulan, NAFED President
8:30 - 10:00 a.m. Keynote Address: Generation "Why Not?": Attracting and Uniting Your Big 4 Generations

with Brian Carter
Millennials are here and they’re definitely different…and uniquely valuable. Do you know how they like to be communicated to? How to attract the best employees of their generation? How to bring them together as a team? Gen Z is just entering the workforce - who are they? How is Gen X managing and leading? And how can Baby Boomers and the younger generations get along more productively? Keynote Brian Carter will leverage two decades of experience hiring, managing, selling to, and partnering with all four of these generations - plus the latest stats and research - to deliver a powerful and practical talk that will help get your company to the next level.

B. Margins, Mark-Ups, and Making Money!
with Diane Pein, Approved Fire Protection Co.
Are you hitting those margins every time? Are you watching the pennies while the dollars slip away? Do you have a real handle on your costs: fringe, burden, overhead, mark-ups, and how it all affects your margins and profits? Are you making money? We will cover calculating overhead, break-even analysis, and margins vs. mark-ups.

Post-Fire Commercial Cooking Line Fire Investigation
with Charles Sullivan, Advanced Engineering Investigation
This presentation will address applicable codes, standard of care, and post-fire deficiencies discovered with commercial cooking operations, specifically, hood exhaust and extinguishing systems. Common problems, and some not so common problems, will be discussed. Equally important during a post-fire investigation is the evaluation of the standard of care of the owner or owner's representative, general contractor, designers, equipment manufacturers, code officials, extinguishing system and mechanical equipment installers, electricians, and service contractors. An understanding of applicable codes, industry standards, and the role each party plays will help professionals determine best practices for installation, testing, and maintenance.

4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Town hall meeting
5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Exhibit hall and reception
Day 2 Friday
7:30 - 8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast

BREAKOUT SESSIONS:

A. New Business Opportunity: Passive Fire Protection: Fire Doors and Dampers
We are all familiar with active fire protection such as fire extinguishers, kitchen suppression, fire alarm, and fire sprinklers. For a total fire protection plan you need both active fire protection and passive fire protection. This presentation will discuss an additional revenue stream that many of us literally walk right past: fire doors and dampers. Don’t leave this business for somebody else to pick up!

B. What Is Personal Protective Equipment and Why Is It Important? with Randal Mills, AI Fire
The proper use and selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential to a safe work environment. Employers must not only provide PPE to their workers but ensure its proper use through adequate training. A good PPE program will address the hazards present; the selection, maintenance, and use of PPE; the training of employees; and monitoring of the program to ensure its ongoing effectiveness. This presentation will show you how.
